The Best Monitor Arms for Small Desks and WFH on Amazon (2026)

Quick Take

The honest top pick for a small WFH desk is the AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor Stand at around $130. It is the Ergotron LX with different branding, built on the same Ergotron line, with the same constant-force spring and 25 inch reach. You get the gold-standard arm for roughly 30 percent less.

If you want the Ergotron name and warranty, the LX itself is the premium pick at about $193. Below that, the VIVO Premium gas-spring arm at $70 is the honest mid-tier, and the classic VIVO V001 at $35 is the budget answer if a gas spring is not in the budget. A VESA laptop tray pairs with any of them to reclaim more desk space.

AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor Stand

Search results for monitor arms are flooded with HUANUO, ErGear, Mount-It, and a rotating cast of no-name brands selling visually identical gas-spring arms at $40 to $90. Most of them work fine for a year and then sag, drift, or fail to hold their position. The market that lasts looks different.

On a small desk, the arm matters more than on a large one because every inch of reclaimed surface is real. The honest answer is built around the AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor Stand, which is the Ergotron LX with different branding for about 30 percent less, plus the actual Ergotron LX for buyers who want the name, two VIVO arms at the mid and budget tiers, and a VESA laptop tray to free up more desk space.

Why the AmazonBasics arm is the honest top pick

The AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor Stand is not a knockoff of the Ergotron LX. It is the Ergotron LX. Ergotron is the OEM, the arm is built on the same line, and the internals are identical down to the constant-force spring assembly. The only differences are the branding, the warranty length, and the price.

That matters on a small desk because the constant-force spring is the feature that separates a real arm from a $50 gas-spring arm. Constant force means the arm holds any position you put it in without drifting down over weeks, without re-tensioning, and without the slow sag that kills cheap arms. The 25 inch horizontal reach lets you push the monitor all the way back against the wall and reclaim 8 to 12 inches of desk depth, which is the entire point of buying an arm for a small desk.

The C-clamp footprint is small, around 3 inches deep, and works on desks from 0.4 to 2.4 inches thick. The arm supports monitors up to 32 inches and 25 lbs, which covers every common WFH monitor including ultrawides up to 34 inches if they are under the weight cap.

Ergotron LX, the premium pick if the name matters

The Ergotron LX itself runs around $193. For roughly $60 more than the AmazonBasics version you get the Ergotron brand on the arm, Ergotron's 10-year warranty instead of AmazonBasics' 1-year, and the polished aluminum finish that matches the rest of the Ergotron lineup if you are building a multi-arm setup.

If you plan to keep the arm for a decade, the warranty alone justifies the premium. If you replace gear every 3 to 5 years, the AmazonBasics version is the same arm for less money and the better buy.

The VIVO Premium gas spring at $70, honest mid-tier

The Fully Jarvis single monitor arm is the WFH community favorite at the $150 tier, but Fully has had supply issues and the arm is often out of stock direct. The honest substitute is the VIVO Premium Aluminum gas-spring arm at $70.

VIVO's Premium line is the upper tier of VIVO's catalog and uses a gas-spring mechanism rather than the mechanical clamp on the budget V001. Height adjustment is smooth, the aluminum construction does not flex visibly under a 27 inch monitor, and the C-clamp or grommet mount fits standard desks up to 3.15 inches thick. Supports monitors up to 32 inches and 17.6 lbs.

The tradeoff against the AmazonBasics or Ergotron LX is the spring type. Gas springs lose pressure slowly over 5 to 8 years and eventually need re-tensioning or replacement. Constant-force springs do not. For a $70 arm that is a reasonable compromise.

VIVO V001 at $35, the budget answer for small desks

The VIVO V001 is the arm that small-desk renters have been buying since 2014. It is a mechanical clamp arm, which means you set the monitor height with a hex wrench and the arm holds that height by friction rather than spring force. You give up the daily up-down adjustment of the gas-spring and constant-force arms.

What you get for $35 is a steel arm that clears the desk surface, supports monitors up to 32 inches and 22 lbs, and lasts. The V001 is the rare budget product that genuinely works as advertised. If $200 is not in the budget and you do not need to adjust the height multiple times a day, this is the honest pick.

VESA laptop tray, the genuine small-desk companion

On a small WFH desk, the laptop is often the second screen that eats the most surface area. The VIVO VESA laptop tray bolts onto the VESA mount of any of the arms above (with a dual-arm adapter) or onto its own arm, and floats the laptop next to or above the monitor. The desk surface comes back.

The tray fits laptops from 10 to 15.6 inches, has ventilation cutouts so the laptop does not cook, and uses the standard 75x75 and 100x100 VESA patterns. At $25 it is the highest-leverage accessory in this entire category for a small-desk setup.

What we'd skip

The $40 to $80 Amazon search results for monitor arms are dominated by HUANUO, ErGear, Mount-It, WALI, and a rotating cast of generic brands selling visually identical gas-spring arms. The casting quality varies wildly batch to batch, the gas springs lose tension inside 12 to 18 months on the worst examples, and warranty support is a returns address.

The VIVO V001 at $35 is the floor for a monitor arm worth buying. The VIVO Premium at $70 is the floor for a gas-spring arm worth buying. Anything cheaper than that with a gas spring is a coin flip on whether you replace it inside two years, which makes it more expensive than the arms above on a cost-per-year basis.

Quick buying guide by desk size

For desks 36 inches wide or narrower, the AmazonBasics or Ergotron LX is the answer because the 25 inch horizontal reach lets the monitor sit against the wall and the constant-force spring means you can pull the monitor forward for video calls and push it back to write. The recovered desk depth is the whole win.

For desks 36 to 48 inches wide where you want a laptop alongside the monitor, the AmazonBasics arm plus the VIVO VESA laptop tray is the combo that actually frees up the desk. If the budget is $100 total, the VIVO Premium gas-spring arm at $70 plus the laptop tray at $25 is the honest answer.

What owners say

Real owner reports from the threads and editorial sources we drew on for this guide.

That is so true, my posture was so bad until i started exercising and then focusing on my ergonomics too. I also have a height adjustable desk that really does save your back

Tbh it just depends on your hours, if your gaming and your hours are short u dont really need to upgrade anything, if its long then maybe a mouse or chair sure. If your working and its long hours then a chair mouse and keyboard wrist pad are what i suggest. But even a height adjustable chair could be the move

Standing desk could be the way to go tho or height adjustable ones

The other reason that I picked this particular unit (besides the ability to adjust frequently and easily) is the tall pole. This provides a larger range of movement, and if your monitor is on the upper end of the rated size scale, you will probably need it. I was really happy about this choice, and although I have not really needed that extra height yet, I am really happy that I have the potential for it.

I've used a few cheap monitor arms in my life, and they are generally ok if you want to leave your monitor in one spot, but barely ok. This arm is expensive, but honestly for something you can keep using its worth the premium. I always thought a monitor arm is a monitor arm but this product changed my perception of that.

I owned a cheap monitor arm for several years and always hated it. It was cheap and felt cheap. I decided to finally replace it when I recently bought a new desk. This Ergotron is like a work of art. It literally brings me a small piece of joy just looking at it. It is incredibly well designed, simple to use and does a great job doing what it's designed to do. No annoying plastic. It is very stable and easily adjusted, it manages cables well. Is it necessary? I don't know, probably not, all I can tell you is I don't regret the purchase one bit. If you're not happy with yours, get it!

The Ergotron LX Single Monitor Arm is a game-changer when it comes to optimizing workspace productivity and ergonomic comfort. As someone who spends long hours in front of a computer screen, this VESA desk mount has truly revolutionized my work setup.

I originally had the Amazon Basics version which was supposedly constructed or licensed from Ergotron. However, that unit's spring tension was faulty so I ordered the Ergotron instead. So far I love it. I opted to wait a few days for the white arm as it more closely matched my Autonomous sit and stand desk. I love the design of this Ergotron LX monitor arm and maneuverability.

This monitor arm works great with my Apple Studio Display, a very heavy 27" monitor. It's perfectly steady, no bounce, smooth adjustments, looks great, no issues whatsoever! Installation was super easy as well. I looked at a million monitor stands and arms before deciding to listen to the reviews and spend a little more on this one. Zero regrets, highly recommended.

VIVO Premium Aluminum Gas Spring Monitor Arm (Jarvis-style)

This is the identical product a different company (starts with f, from pacific northwest) is selling for three times the price, It can also be sourced historically from another retailer with mono in the name 🤫. For the price I recommend doing some small work on it to make it funciton like a $3,000 arm.

To start off, the stand's metal is solid and sturdy. The hardware supplied is also thick steel and won't strip, bend, or break.

Picked up one of these to see how it stacked up with the Herman Miller that this is a clone of and the couple other models of arms i use at work. The only discernable difference with my HM art home is the finish, a slightly rougher metallic coating vs smooth, hardware otherwise identical. Great value overall, no issues whatsoever with it in the last 3 or so years I've used them both.

VIVO V001 Single Monitor Desk Mount

★★★★★4.5 from 20,180 Amazon reviews

TLDR: Experienced installer, and I chose this mount for my personal office for its ease of installation and its sturdiness. For any monitor mounting operation, careful thought and planning is required, and this mount solves more headaches than is causes.

So I was browsing the other day looking for ideas for a way out of my dilemma; a stand that (1) lets the left and right monitors tilt inward about 20 degrees so I'm not constantly craning my neck back and forth to see everything, and (2) would allow you to sneeze without one or more monitors dropping and/or tilting. I was growing discouraged. Then, in the middle of a thread on reddit, it was like a heavenly beacon of light sprang up to highlight a comment reading, simply, "The best triple-monitor mount is three single mounts." And so here we are.

Rich H., verified Amazon buyer

Despite the pole being a multi-section item, it's completely rigid. The whole assembly is very solid and works well for a fixed-height solution. There were some alternatives that were a little less expensive, but I've had good experiences with VIVO branded products in the past, and I was more interested in getting a good value (rather than the absolute cheapest item). At $40 (at the time of this review), I feel like it's money well spent. Recommended

Very sturdy and well-made tray! The steel construction feels solid and holds my laptop securely without wobbling. The ventilation holes are a nice touch to help keep the laptop cool. Installation on my VESA mount stand was straightforward, and it fits perfectly. Great value for the price—definitely recommend if you need a reliable mount tray for your setup.

This was a really good purchase, it totally helped me get my laptop off my desk, elevated and more organized.

This product fits completely with a North Bayou arm mount thanks to VESA 100mm it supports my 3 kg 15.6" Acer predator helios laptop and it helps A LOT considering that my desk is only 40 cm deep so i had a hard time not being able to use my wireless keyboard but to use the built in keyboard instead. and sometimes i hit myself with my lapotop while moving my mouse during fps games. Now with the computer "flying" i have extra space for both my keyboard and mouse and for some notebooks to do homework I could not be more happy right now about this. Totally worth it
