The Best Cooling Pillows for Hot Sleepers on Amazon (2026)

Quick Take

For most hot sleepers, the best cooling pillow on Amazon right now is the Coop Home Goods Original Loft. The shredded memory foam plus microfiber fill lets air move through the pillow instead of trapping it against the head, and the included bag of extra fill means you can dial loft down until the cover sits flush and cool. It runs around $89.

If the Original still warms up by the early hours, the Eden Cool+ at $159 layers a phase-change cover panel over the same adjustable chassis. At the other end, the Cosy House bamboo shredded-foam pillow does most of what the Coop does for around $60, and a $22 set of bamboo pillowcases is the cheapest cooling upgrade if you already like the pillow you own.

Cooling pillows are one of the most-marketed and least-tested categories in bedding. Most of what is sold as cooling on Amazon is a standard pillow with a slick polyester cover that feels cold for thirty seconds and then settles to body temperature for the rest of the night.

This guide covers the pillows that actually do something for hot sleepers: adjustable shredded foam (because airflow beats any cover treatment), phase-change cover panels, and bamboo-derived viscose covers that wick instead of trap. Picks span $22 to $159, with the lane each one belongs in spelled out below.

What actually makes a pillow sleep cool

Three mechanisms do real work, and most marketing copy mixes them up.

Airflow. Shredded memory foam and latex have channels between the pieces that let warm air leave the pillow as the head moves. Solid-core foam blocks airflow no matter what the marketing says, which is why the Tempur-Cloud is in this guide as a fixed-loft choice and not as a primary cooling answer.

Phase-change material. A thin layer in the cover absorbs heat as it changes phase, buying roughly an hour of genuinely cool contact before it saturates. The Eden Cool+ panel is the most common implementation in this price range.

Wicking covers. Viscose-from-bamboo and Tencel covers move moisture off the skin instead of pooling it. They do not feel cold to the touch the way phase-change does, but they prevent the slow heat build-up that polyester covers cause.

Adjustable shredded foam: the Coop lane

The Coop Home Goods Original Loft is the default recommendation because it solves the two problems hot sleepers report most: pillows that are too tall (which traps heat against the neck) and pillows with non-breathing covers. The fill is shredded memory foam blended with microfiber, the cover is rayon-from-bamboo with a polyester backing, and the bag of extra fill that ships in the box means the same pillow can be tuned to stomach-sleeper flat or side-sleeper tall.

Owners who still run hot on the Original typically move up to the Eden Cool+. Same adjustable chassis, gel-infused foam pieces instead of plain, and a phase-change panel on the sleep side of the cover. The price step from $89 to $159 buys roughly an hour of cooler-contact time, not infinite cooling.

Fixed-loft foam: when the Tempur-Cloud makes sense

The TEMPUR-Cloud is a solid-core foam pillow with no fill adjustment and no phase-change layer. For pure cooling it is worse than either Coop pillow because there is no airflow through the core. It earns a spot in this guide for sleepers who have already decided they want one consistent shape every night and trust the Tempur-Pedic foam recipe.

If a Tempur-Cloud is the right shape but sleeps too warm, the fix is almost always the pillowcase, not the pillow. A viscose-from-bamboo case over the Tempur cover changes the contact surface entirely. This is why the Cosy House bamboo pillowcase set is listed as a companion pick rather than a substitute.

Down-alternative gel: the Beckham lane

Beckham Hotel Collection sells the highest-volume pillow on Amazon by a wide margin, and the cooling-gel version is the genuinely-different one in their lineup. The fill is a down-alternative microfiber with a gel-fiber blend, the loft is medium-low, and the two-pack price competes with single premium adjustables.

Best for back and stomach sleepers who want a softer cooling pillow that does not need to be unzipped and re-stuffed. Side sleepers usually find the loft too short and end up doubling them, which defeats the price advantage.

Bamboo cover, shredded foam: the budget answer

The Cosy House Luxury Bamboo Shredded Memory Foam Pillow is the closest like-for-like substitute for the Coop Original at roughly two-thirds the price. Same adjustable fill concept, same viscose-from-bamboo cover idea. The fill quality is a step below Coop's and the cover seam construction is less robust, but for sleepers who are not sure they will keep an adjustable pillow long term, this is the way to find out for $60.

The same brand's bamboo pillowcase set is the cheapest item in this guide and the one with the broadest application: it works as a cooling upgrade on any pillow already in the house.

How to actually test a cooling pillow

Most cooling pillows fail in the same window: 2am to 5am, after the cover has equalised to body temperature and any phase-change material has saturated. A useful test is to give a new pillow seven nights, sleep on it without the new pillowcase the first three (so the pillow is what you are evaluating, not the case), then add the case for the last four. If the wake-up surface temperature is noticeably cooler with the new case, the case is doing the work and the pillow underneath is replaceable.

For hot sleepers with a partner whose heat does not bother them, an inexpensive infrared thermometer pointed at the cover at 3am produces a more honest number than memory. A good cooling pillow surface in a 68F room reads in the high 80s to low 90s. A polyester-covered pillow that has been slept on for four hours reads closer to body temperature.

What to skip

Pillows whose only cooling claim is a printed pattern of "ice" or "arctic" on the cover. The cover material doing the work is viscose-from-bamboo, Tencel, or phase-change PCM. If the listing does not name one of those, the cover is polyester with a graphic.

Solid memory foam pillows marketed as cooling without an adjustable fill or a phase-change panel. The two cancel each other out: the foam blocks airflow, and there is no compensating cooling mechanism.

Two-pack "cooling" pillows under $30. At that price point the cover is invariably polyester and the fill is a virgin hollow-fiber that compresses inside a week. The Cosy House bamboo pillowcase set at $22 is a better use of the same money.

What owners say

Real owner reports from the threads and editorial sources we drew on for this guide.

This mattress looks very interesting. Is the memory foam making you sleep hot? Can you stomach sleep on it, side sleep on it?

r/Mattress / Quirky-Lime2109

Small update for you, I switched to this sheet set and oh my gosh it is so much better. That costco one was so scratchy and itchy, this one says its polyester. It feels very soft but also slippery and cool without itchiness like that costco one.

r/Mattress / AnalysisWise6052

If anyone reading this wants a non-supplement angle, a quick approach is: keep wake time consistent, no hot shower right before bed, carbs earlier in the evening and 2 minutes slow breathing

r/sleep / Dear-Upstairs-1831

Thats been our experience as well w.r.t. pillows but we went with a adjustable base and no longer needed pillows to prop up whilst watching TV.

After trying and spending money on several pillows over the years, this is the first one that has truly worked for me.

Edma, verified Amazon buyer

I was skeptical of spending this much money on a pillow, but so far I'm glad I did.

Justin, verified Amazon buyer

Over the years, I have spent a lot of time and money buying pillows. I can never seem to find one that fits my needs. I thought this would be a good option to try because this came up as a top rated pillow from consumer reports.

To start, I have recurring neck and back problems. I also have a ginormous head making it difficult to support my neck and be comfortable. Often when I wake up the muscle between my neck and shoulder is basically a camel hump. I was using another brand pillow filled with shredded foam material, but I was continuously adjusting it and using other pillow to prop some edges up.

Jake, verified Amazon buyer

This is a very good pillow, and it has noticeably improved my sleep. I wasn't sure about going with a shredded latex pillow at first, rather than a solid latex, but this turned out to be very comfortable, and the outer case is very nice as well. The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is that I think the extra fill that it comes with should be at least twice as much for the price, but I still don't regret my purchase at all.

MR, verified Amazon buyer

The quality of the fill was nice and supportive with having enough give. However, the amount of fill that was in the pillow was significantly lacking. It does include a package of additional fill, but even with that added, was not satisfactory. Honestly, needed another package of fill. Not sure why it was not filled well in the first place.... So the value is lacking, too expensive for what you get.

Spent a looooong time searching for a pillow like this. The ability to remove foam is awesome. It is so comfy once you get it adjusted to your preference. I sleep on my stomach and side and never wake up with any pain. It stays cool ( I sleep HOT ) all night, offers great support, and keeps its shape. The quality is very good as well.

Joseph M., verified Amazon buyer

Very fluffy. I wouldn’t consider this overly firm by any means. It’s really nice and high quality. I put mine in the dryer to fluff it out quickly. For 70 bucks you get 2 really good pillows that are comfortable and easy to sleep on. My wife and I really like them.

Charles Stringfellow, verified Amazon buyer

I have been searching for the perfect pillow for YEARS! This is definitely it! I got them on sale and was a little skeptical especially when they came flat. However, after opening and letting them sit for a while they fluffed right up. When I say they are the perfect degree of firmness please believe me. They have a little weight to them and hold their shape perfectly. I will for sure be purchasing more for the rest of my bedrooms!

If the price is what is keeping you from buying it, just think of it as a long term investment. You will never need to buy another pillow again. My sister in law has had hers for 6 or 7 years. That's like $7 a year. The king size is a nice size too because my husband and I can both lay our heads on it at the same time. You can take the stuffing out so that it is the right thickness for you. It's great. I'm glad I bought it and my husband will be glad to have his own soon enough!

It’s very comfortable and actually good pillow.the fact that it’s adjustable makes it even better

I've tried many of these shredded foam pillows, many pillows in general actually. I know it is really difficult when buying online to try and determine what to expect, even with all the reviews etc. I've been on the hunt for the right pillow for ages.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud Pillow

Before purchasing, I read many, many reviews. I saw a number of people complain that this pillow is "small". When you put it next to a standard pillow, yes, it is! But really, how much pillow does your head need? This pillow has plenty of room to lay on your back and turn side to side. I also saw people complaining about not being able to fit a regular pillowcase on it. Why? It has a comfortable washable, removable case. If it doesn't fit your decor, throw it in a closet during the day. Also yes, it is firm. But that is the point. The comfy mushy pillows won't support your neck.

Laura A., verified Amazon buyer

I've had neck discomfort sleeping for the last 3 years and have tried many pillows. I finally ordered the TEMPUR neck pillow recommended by my friend. She swears by it and and has used hers for many years. Based on my repeated measurements I ordered the medium size pillow. It wasn't comfortable, I returned it and ordered the smaller size. I should have paid more attention to the note...if in between sizes order smaller of the two.

Putter, verified Amazon buyer

Bought this for my boyfriend to upgrade his old memory foam pillow that he loved after he complained about having neck/back pain. He’s been sleeping on this pillow exclusively for 3 months now and is obsessed with it and refuses to use any other pillow. Love that the pillow comes in different heights for comfort and neck support based on preferences. This pillow has definitely helped with pain relief and better sleep quality for my boyfriend. Also love that it has a removable cover to wash and keep clean. Well worth the investment to wake up feeling better!

Cosy House Collection Luxury Bamboo Pillowcases (Set of 2)

If you are looking for high-end organic luxury, these aren't it. However, if you want a workhorse pillowcase that feels significantly softer than cotton, stays relatively cool, and doesn't require a special "delicates" laundry cycle, the Cosy House Premium cases are an excellent value. They are "resort-style" bedding for people who don't want to spend resort-style money.

Amazon Customer, verified Amazon buyer

Yes, it meant my expectations. They’re beautiful. It’s the color that I want it and expected. I love the quality, and I love the softness of the pillowcases. The cost was extremely reasonable if I ever need more pillowcases, I know just where to go to buy and they’re reasonably priced. Great Job!!!

Chef Chef, verified Amazon buyer

These are comfy, but I also ordered a second pair ("GOKOTTA") and I gotta say I prefer them. These are more fuzzy, whereas they are more smooth and silky. I still like these alot and rotate through them, but it's just a good vs. better sorta thing.
